Husbands would be able to take their wife’s surname – Constitutional Court ruled today
The Constitutional Court ruled on 11 September 2025 that sections 28(1)(a) to (c) of the Births and Deaths Registration Act are unconstitutional, ordering that they be changed to allow men to take the surnames of their wives in marriage. They have twenty-four months.
